What is Gelatin?
Gelatin is a food thickener that is made of animal parts. The skin, bones, and ligaments of horses, cattle, chicken, and or pigs are boiled down to create a gel that is used in a lot of everyday foods. GROSS. Jello, cakes, candies and even certain vitamins contain this non vegan product. Many people do not understand that they’re eating animal by-products in a lot of their everyday foods. What is Agar-Agar?
“Agar is a substance that is derived from red algae or seaweed. This edible substance is a staple in many regions of the world and for vegetarians and vegans.”
Agar (Japanese Red Seaweed) is also called Kanten and comes from the Pacific Ocean off Asia and the western region of The United States. It has some great nutritional benefits and contains calcium, iodine, phosphorus, and iron. Agar contains 80% iron which is great for keeping your pets stomach healthy.
This vegan product is used as a gelatin replacement in our Pet Releaf Edibites. Although more costly, we believe in our plant-based products and we know that benefits of Agar is the healthier and more humane way.
Agar is super healthy for you and your pets and we like to think that whole food ingredients that come from the natural earth are what you and your furry friends should be ingesting.
